Meet Natasha Iregbu
I published three books, including Mindful Living, in less than 2 years of becoming a mum. I had always been ambitious and career focused, however after becoming a mum I realised that I didn't know who I was or what I actually valued in life outside of my career.
After I entered motherhood, I realised how much of an identity shift I had gone through and that I was a completely different person from before. I knew that my sense of ambition was still inside me, but it was buried away.
One of the most important things that I did to reconnect with myself after motherhood was to focus on what was important to me in life.
Not what I think I should be doing or what society might think I should do. But what I wanted my life to be like and how I wanted to feel.
After becoming a mum I created my mindfulness based ARIA framework. This is what I used to keep me feeling grounded when navigating the transition to motherhood and knowing that I wanted to try something new outside of being a stay at home mum in early motherhood.
I discovered that I was becoming more aware of my thoughts, especially since I was surviving on broken sleep and I had times when I lay awake thinking at 2am in the morning when I couldn't get back to sleep.
I reflected on the thoughts and how they made me feel. This led to having an insight into repeated thought patterns and unhelpful thoughts that were bringing up feelings of self-doubt and not doing “enough”. This resulted in me growing confidence to take intentional action which meant that my inner critic wasn't as loud when thinking about life after motherhood.
This framework as well as my VOICES framework helped me reconnect with myself and feel more self-confident within myself as I went on a journey of self-discovery of finding myself after motherhood.

When you wake up in the morning by your child crying, climbing into your bed or hearing “MUMMY” you instantly start thinking about the morning rush of getting yourself and your kid ready. Putting breakfast together, making sure everyone's teeth are brushed and trying to get your child dressed while they do everything to avoid getting ready. You know you should be staying patient but it's a struggle to keep calm when you need to do the nursery/school drop off and/or work early in the morning.
Your day goes by and it feels like you haven't done anything you set out to do. Because there's so much to do between keeping the house running, life admin staying on top of everyone's appointments and your life outside of motherhood even when you complete something on your list you're instantly onto the next thing. You're exhausted trying to keep on top of everything.
When you're spending time together as a family you feel happy to be with them. Yet at the same time the mum guilt creeps in that you have to spend more time than you want to away from your child to work or take care of other responsibilities. You know you should be focusing on what's happening now but you can't help but repeat past moments and try to predict the future.
